Description:

The Ferrari 250 GT/E was on the long-wheelbase platform of the Ferrari 250s and first entered production in 1959 and builtin three series through 1963, with only minor changes between the individual series. Although not the first GT car on the Ferrari 250 platform, it was the first one that had 4 seats, in 2+2 configuration. The Ferrari 250 GT/E was an economic success for Ferrari with nearly 1000 built; more than any other 250 platforms. To some extent, as a result of this success in the period, they have historically been the least expensive 250-based cars on the collector market and for quite a while many of them were rebodied into replicas of the rarer and more valuable Ferrari 250s, with which they shared much of the rest of their drivetrain and suspension. Bodied by Pininfarina, the build quality, fit and finish of the 250 GT/E was inline with other luxury GT cars of the era, while the performance of the V12 was above that of most of its contemporary competitors. My 250 GT/E was restored from the ground up by Vintage Underground in Eugene, Oregon, for the previous owner, who bought the car in the 1970s and

drove it for a while, but parked it in covered storage for nearly 30 years. While stored, the car had suffered badly from rodents and the ravages of time and so when she decided to have it restored, it required an extensive disassembly and complete rebuild, which was carried out to a concours level. Although I didn’t own this car at the time, I did have a car in restoration at Vintage Underground at the same time so was able to watch this car come apart and go through the full restoration and reassembly process. When the previous owner decided to sell it a few years after the restoration was completed, I was very happy to buy it. Not only is it cosmetically perfect, but it also has been fully mechanically rebuilt and sorted to run exactly as it should. These cars do drive extremely well and it would certainly be a shame to not drive it as it was intended. Indeed, these cars are excellent options for long-distance rallys and events. Under my ownership, I’ve shown this car at two concourses and in both, it took first in class, as well as the people’s choice award at the Northwest Region Ferrari Club of America Concours for 2019.
