Description:

The Jaguar XK150 was the last variant of the XK line of cars that began in 1948 with the XK120. As is common for sports cars, the XK150 was larger and wider than the previous variants, with improved comforts and features, but at the expense of extra weight. As with the other XK series of cars, the XK150 was available as an open two seater, drophead, coupe, and a fixed head coupe. The significant upgrades to the 140 largely consisted of disc brakes all around, along with an increase in width and, for the Open Two Seater, roll up windows replacing the sidescreens making for a more practical car. Although production initially used the same 3.4 liter engine as the XK140MC as standard, an “S” model of the 3.4 liter engine was introduced with three 2 inch carburettors. A different straight port cylinder head, and 250 advertised horsepower. Near the end of production, all engines were upgraded from the 3.4 liter variant to the 3.8 liter, with a normal and “S” model available in the 3.8 form as well. By the time production ceased in 1960, the XK line of cars was getting dated and was replaced in 1961 by the revolutionary E-Type.This example of the XK150 is one of only 42 3.8 liter open two seaters made and is a largely original car that has been in the Pacific Northwest for much of its life. Originally sold to an owner in California, I purchased the car from the previous owner near Vancouver, Washington, after he had owned it for over

30 years, he himself having purchased the car from Eugene, Oregon in 1982, where it resides again. The owner I bought the car from preserved it in very good condition but drove it sparingly over the time of his ownership, but only was selling the car due to a move and downsizing causing the loss of garage space. When I bought this car, I already owned a 3.4 liter XK150 OTS, but as that car was not as original or as rare, I opted to sell it on and replaced it with this example. As the previous owner used the convertible top only once on the car, when he bought it and drove it from Eugene to Washington in 1982, I had to have the top replaced, and upgraded the shock absorbers to Koni adjustable shocks, but other than that and normal maintenance, there has needed to be little done to this car in the last 40 years. The XK150 definitely drives better than the XK120 that started the XK line of cars, with significantly more legroom, better steering and handling, as well as much better brakes. The seating position is still very upright, but not as close to the steering wheel, and the wider cockpit gives a bit more room for the knees. This car also has a working overdrive which improves high speed cruising and wasn’t an option on the XK120. The gearbox, itself, however, is still the primitive Moss gearbox as used on the XK120 and is the only real downside to the otherwise excellent drivetrain
